CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON OCTOBER 15, 2005, BEGINNING AT 10:00 AM AT THE BUCKINGHAM PROPERTY. This will be the last meeting of the season so hope you can attend. DIRECTIONS TO LEASED PROPERTY IN BUCKINGHAM COUNTY: On A map find the intersection of route 15 and route 60 at Sprouse's Corner. Go 1 ˝ miles south on route 15. In curve you will see a sign for route 714—go to NEXT gravel road and turn right. It is across from two churches on left. After going through gate, go past trailer on right. When you come to a clearing on the left with a large oak tree you should bear to the right. This road will take you to the creek. You should not attempt to go any further than the creek unless you have an ATV or 4-wheel drive. REPORT ON SEPTEMBER 17TH MEETING On September 17th the meeting was called to order by the club president, Ben Vaughan. There were approximately 50 members and guests in attendance. Reports from the Secretary and Treasure were given. ITEMS DISCUSSED at MEETING Ben Vaughan and Harry McElhone were managing our booth at the Field Days of the Past. A number of members volunteered to assist them. They were doing several gold nugget raffles and a panning demonstration, including giving away vials of concentrates. This event went from Friday thru Sunday. Ben's wish was granted that they not be flooded again this year. A motion was made and seconded to make a donation to the Buckingham County Rescue Squad in memory of Wallace Shumacher, who was killed in a car wreck. He was an employee of Kyanite and had rendered great assistance to our club in regard to the Buckingham property. The hunting season is just around the corner and we need to remind those who use the property that our usage is restricted during this time. The season runs from November 19, 2005 thru January 7, 2006 and between these dates, we can only go to the property on SUNDAYS. WHEN TO LOCK AND NOT LOCK GATE !!!! It was decided that we should lock the gate after entering the property and to be sure and lock it when you leave. DURING HUNTING SEASON, THIS RULE DOES NOT APPLY. LEAVE THE GATE AS YOU FIND IT. Ben commented on a "missing" lock from the property gate. He is sure someone just forgot to put it back on the gate and would appreciate it being returned. Our Claims Director Tim Baber told us there had been a bear sighting at the property so stay alert. It was also mentioned that there also are snakes. Just remember to be aware that this is a remote piece of land and all sorts of wildlife can possibly be encountered. He also complimented the land users on doing a great job of not littering. In fact, it has been noted that even litter left by others has been removed. DREDGING: This issue is still pending. We have been told that there will be some new information about dredging presented at the meeting and that it will be GOOD NEWS. Try and be present if you are interested in this topic. Our Articles of Incorporation has been approved by the State Corporation Commission and we are well on our way to being approved for non-profit status. In conjunction with this, we need to consider doing some projects to educate the public about past and present gold prospecting history. Any suggestions on how to do this are welcome. Last, but certainly not least, it was time to make nominations for new officers to be voted on at the October meeting for next year's season. This will probably come as no great surprise to most of you but no new names were submitted so the officers will remain the same. Since they are unopposed, they were elected by acclamation. The officers are: Ben Vaughan, President; John Schlabach, Vice President; Sandy Stowe, Secretary; Bob Stowe, Treasurer; Tim Baber, Claims Director; Roland Harris, Chaplain The Secretary requests that if you change your contact information, mailing or email address, telephone number, etc., and want to continue receiving the newsletter, please let her know. The upcoming 18th birthday of Felicia was announced and everyone sang Happy Birthday. It is great to have Felicia as a member !! The drawings for the raffle items was then held. Nugget No. 1 was won by Dennis McCleevey Nugget No. 2 was won by Scott Williams The split was won by Buddy Albert and Tim Baber. CONGRATULATIONS !! DON'T FORGET THE NEXT MEETING IS OCTOBER 15TH AT THE BUCKINGHAM PROPERTY. Lunch will be provided—burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, salads, dessert and drinks. The drawing for the 1 ounce+ nugget will be held at the October meeting. If the winner isn't present, they will be notified by telephone or email. The name of the person selling the most raffle tickets will be announced and will be presented with the quarter ounce piece of reef gold. This is the last official meeting for this season and hopefully everyone can be there. SEE YOU ON OCTOBER 15th
