A moment of silence was observed. There were 17 people in attendence. Prospective new members and guests were welcomed. The establishment of a new officer position was suggested, a motion was made, 2nd and passed unanimously, Naomi Hartman agreed to take the new position. She will be handling the raffles and merchandise sales. The minutes of the August 16, 2003 meeting were read and the Treasurer's Report was given. Grace Cartwright could not attend the meeting but had reported a meeting with VMRC had been scheduled and a demonstration would be done for them. We look foarward to hearing more about the meeting. Ned announced that Wilma Massie, Mother of Tom and Perry, passed away August 21, 2003 and that she was buried in Alaska beside her husband "The Buzzard". It was announced that the Goldvein Jubilee scheduled for the afternoon of September 20 had ben cancelled and re-scheduled for September 27th from 3 until 7 PM. Gary Sensabaugh made a rocker box to donate to their Museum--we had a brass plaque made showing that the CVGP had donated the box. IMPORTANT: Our October 18 meeting has been changed to Saturday, November 1, because a number of our members will be attending the Gold Show in Winston-Salem on 18th and 19th. At the November 1 meeting there will be an election of new officers. Also, the special gold nugget drawing for club volunteers will be held. Several possibilities for a meeting place (with heat) for the winter months were discussed and are being checked on. There are also some possibilities of places where we may be able to go as a club to prospect that are being looked at. Hopefully something will be found! Next, one of our members brought an article from "The Central Virginian" newspaper titled Creek Bed Dredging Raises Environmental Concerns. (The article is talking about Contrary Creek, which many of you are familiar with. This information has been passed on to Grace for her use.) Club member Ben Vaughan raised a question about what property the club owned. President, Ned Skinner replied with a statement about a Keene dredge, spiral gold recovery system and a Chuck's Gold Trapper and how they came to be in his possession. There was then an open discussion among the members present. From this discussion the suggestion of club by-laws came up. Carl Powell made a motion that a committee be formed to begin work on by-laws for the club. This motion was voted on and passed. Ben Vaughan, Cyndi Huffstutler and Carl Powell volunteered to be on the club by-laws Committee. If anyone else is interested in being on the committee, please let us know. We would like two more members. GPAA rules will be included in our by-laws. Ben then reported on the Field Days of the Past demonstration he had set-up along with the help of several volunteers. He said despite Isabel, there was a great turn-out and people were showing an interest in the panning demonstration, Ben said they were very pleased with the gold they found in the concentrates when trying their hand at panning. The drawing for one Alaskan and one Australian nugget was then held. The meeting was then adjourned. ________________________________
