CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS REPORT ON JULY 16, 2005 MEETING Our next meeting will be August 20th, 10 AM at the leased property in Buckingham County. DIRECTIONS TO LEASED PROPERTY IN BUCKINGHAM COUNTY: On A map find the intersection of route 15 and route 60 at Sprouse's Corner. Go 1 ½ miles south on route 15. In curve you will see a sign for route 714—go to NEXT gravel road and turn right. It is across from two churches on left. After going through gate, go past trailer on right. When you come to a clearing on the left with a large oak tree you should bear to the right. This road will take you to the creek. You should not attempt to go any further than the creek unless you have an ATV or 4-wheel drive. The regular meeting will begin at 10 AM. There will be a number of people staying for the weekend and camping at the property. On Saturday evening food will be provided. Wally Collard is going to barbeque a pig and also have additional ribs. Also, there will be all the good things that go with barbeque like potato salad, cole slaw, etc. There is going to be a "common dig" for all interested in participating. Any gold found will be pooled together and then split among the participants at the end of the event. Novice prospectors will be paired with experienced prospectors if they want some help ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ``````````` At the July 16th meeting, the following items were discussed: · Treasurer's report was given and the Secretary's report was read. · An announcement was made and a moment of silence observed for Herb Nunley, who passed away.. · The Field Day of the Past event, exit 173 off route 64 west of Richmond, will take place on September 16, 17 and 18. Harry McElhone is organizing the club's set-up and would appreciate help. If you would be willing to volunteer, contact him at harrymc1@peoplepc.com or (410) 749-2861. · We are still waiting on final approval of the club incorporation application. · DREDGING UPDATE: Ditto last month's newsletter. Club pins have been designed and ordered by our Vice President, John Schlabach. They are in the shape of the State of Virginia with a pick and shovel and gold pan. They will be available at the next meeting. There will be 2 different prices for the pin—one for with and one for without a small piece of gold in the pan. There was a discussion of the procedure for the raffle of the one ounce nugget. The tickets must be turned in by the September 17th meeting and the drawing will be at the October meeting. If you are not going to be able to come to the September meeting, the tickets and/or money can be mailed to the club Secretary prior to then. Don't forget about the outing at Gold Valley Campground on August 26 and 27. If you are planning on attending you must call the campground at (704) 538-8047 and make your reservation. Be sure to tell them you are with the Central Virginia Club. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some comments about the Buckingham property: The landlord was very impressed with the work done in pulling approximately 80 tires up from the ditch. They are considering how they can properly be disposed of. They have been approached about our putting panning tubs on the property for people to demonstrate and/or practice their panning skills. Camping for up to 8 days is permitted at the property, just remember the main rule of no open fires. We would like to thank Buddy Albert for his donation of a 12' x 20' canvas canopy for the club to use at the property, especially if it rains. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Claims Committee Chairman, Tim Baber, reported that they have almost completed the marking of the leased property boundary. Surveyor's ribbon was used so it is easy to see. Tim requested help between now and the next meeting to help finish the marking and some other tasks. If you can volunteer, contact Tim at olgadew@aol.com or (804) 492-9944. (Tim will be in Alaska through August 6.) Your help would certainly be appreciated !! At this point Tim Bradshaw gave a presentation on how to properly handle mercury. This was very interesting and was followed by a lengthy question and answer session. Thanks Tim !! We look forward to seeing lots of you at the August meeting, whether you come for a few hours or for both days. There is going to be a lot going on so bring your lunch and drinks and stay for the evening meal and entertainment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
