UPCOMING MEETING OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS

The next meeting will be on July 19, 2003 at 10:00 AM at 
Small Country Campground.

DIRECTIONS:

From Richmond Area: Interstate 64 to exit 143 (Rt.208-
North)...go 2.5 miles and turn LEFT at small sign onto 640 
and go 150 yards and turn RIGHT at small sign on 649. Go 2 
miles (bearing left on 649) into Small Country Campground. 
Campground entrance will be on the right. As you drive up 
the dirt road, pavillion is on right.

From Harrisonburg Area: Route 33 East- go through 
Ruckersville, Barboursville and Gordonsville to Trevillians-
at intersection of Routes 33 and 22 turn left onto Route 22 
then take immediate RIGHT onto Rote 613 - go to Route 649 
and turn LEFT - go 2 miles (bearing left on 649) into Small 
Country Campground. 

From Manassas Area: South on Route 29 to Route 15 South. 
Take 15 South through Orange to Gordonsville - turn LEFT 
onto Route 33 - take 33 to Trevillians - turn LEFT onto 
Route 22 and immediately turn RIGHT onto Route 613 - go to 
Route 649 and turn LEFT. Go 2 miles (bearing left on 649) 
into Small Country Campground.

Minutes from June 21 Meeting:

The meeting was called to order by club President, Ned 
Skinner. Approximately 39 members, guests and prospective 
new members were present. Bob Stowe gave the Treasurer's 
Report.

CORRECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The date we have been giving 
for the outing to Vein Mountain is incorrect. It should be 
August 23 (not the 24th) through the 30th.

The planned trip to Vein Mountain, NC was discussed. Those 
who want to travel to NC together will meet at 10:00 AM at 
the old WalMart parking lot on Route 3 in Fredericksburg. 
Otherwise, the group will meet at Vein Mountain. Skip Kimmey 
told us about some of the facilities there and had a display 
of photos. 

The Miner's Safety Class is going to be held on Sat. July 
26th--let us know if you are interested. It is likely that 
this certification will be one of the requirements for 
getting a dredging permit. (see below for time and 
directions)

Also, as discussed at last month's meeting, let us know if 
you have a creek location you want included on the approved 
for dredging list.

Tom Sablon and Herb Nunley told us about the new club they 
are starting at Goldvein. It will meet the first Saturday of 
the month, beginning September 6, 2003, at the Warrenton 
Community Center on Shirley Ave. at 10:00 AM. For more

We are also still working on some leads for a place to have 
our meetings during the winter months.

Ned showed us the box of "goodies" he received from GPAA in 
recognition of our re-joining, to be used for club fund 
raising.

The raffle drawing was then held and the lucky winners were 
very pleased with the 2 nuggets, one Alaskan and one 
Australina.

The meeting was then adjourned.

The Miner's Safety Class will be at Bob & Sandy Stowe's 
house - telephone number (540) 948-6689. The class will 
begin at 8:30 AM. Coffee will be provided as will lunch 
since the class will run into the afternoon.


Directions: Come to Madison on Route 29 -

At traffic light at McDonald's - if you are coming from the 
North, turn left onto Route 634 (Oak Park Road) - If you are 

coming from the South, make a right turn onto onto Route 634 
(Oak Park Road).

Go 1.1 mile and at intersection at top of hill go straight 
across onto Route 616 (Carpenters Mill Road) -

Go 1 mile and at bottom of hill turn left onto Route 625 
(gravel road- Tom Johnston Road). 

Go 1 mile and at top of hill you will see white house with a 
white picket fence. Go straight across into driveway.

We will have some new prospecting supplies for sale at the 
next meeting, along with some neat United We Stand pins as 
advertised on the Outdoor Channel. We will also be having 
our usual raffle for a couple of really nice gold nuggets.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to send our 
BEST WISHES AND CONGRATULATIONS to Billy and Grace on their 
upcoming marriage.
