CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS Report on March 17, 2007 Meeting Our Next meeting is April 21, 2007, 10:00 AM at Buckingham Property No. 1. DIRECTIONS TO LEASED PROPERTY IN BUCKINGHAM On A map find the intersection of route 15 and route 60 at Sprouse's Corner. Go 1 ½ miles south on route 15. In curve you will see a sign for route 714—go to NEXT gravel road and turn right. It is across from two churches on left. After going through gate, go past trailer on right. When you come to a clearing on the left with a large oak tree you should bear to the right. This road will take you to the creek. You should not attempt to go any further than the creek unless you have an ATV or 4-wheel drive. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` The March 17, 2007 meeting was called to order with approximately 83 members and guests present. This was our biggest turnout ever. Ben introduced himself and all the officers. He also announced the appointment of a new claims officer, Sam Seay. Things got started an hour earlier than usual in order that people could begin registering for the Buckingham property land fees. Ben told us about a new property we have leased in the Goldvein area. This will be a big advantage to our members who live "up north". We also made available printed schedules for this new season. The Treasurer and Secretary gave their reports. We had a short discussion about our contribution to the Waldo Mining Club to assist them in their legal efforts. OLD BUSINESS: As of July 1, 2007 IT WILL BE COMPLETELY LEGAL TO DREDGE WITH A 4 INCH OR SMALLER DREDGE. Please remember that this law does not become effective until July1 !!!! We need to comply with this !!!! Also remember that Buckingham Property No,1 will not be open to dredging. Also remember that there is no dredging in designated historic areas. If you are in doubt as to what you can and can't do, remember that common sense applies. For example, carefully pour gas in your dredge out of the water in case of a spill. Also note that some of the roads to the different properties are "rugged" and good judgement should be used as to whether to drive on them or not. Please don't make additional ruts off to the side. And also, if you dig a hole, fill it before you leave. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NEW BUSINESS: Again this year we are having a raffle for an ounce + specimen nugget. These tickets will be issued in lots of 5 but can be sold singly. The tickets are $5 each. There is a prize of a ¼ ounce nugget for the person selling the most tickets. All monies and sold tickets will have to be turned in by the September meeting and the drawing will be held at the October meeting. A picture of the nuggets will be on our website CVGP. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Next meeting is going to be April 21 at Buckingham Property No. 1. We will have as guests a group of Boy Scouts from Annandale and a school club from Greene County. We will need volunteers to help and be mentors for these up and coming Gold Prospectors. This is our future !! We will also have an Easter egg with a nugget in it hunt. Food will be provided. Also, the May meeting is going to be at the newly acquired Goldvein property. This will mean a longer drive for some of you but it will be a great opportunity to become informed about the property. We need you to be thinking about volunteering to help at the Field Days of the Past event in September and the Jamestown Celebration in Buckingham on August 11 and 12. Let us know if you can help. The meeting was adjourned and the drawings for the nugget and door prizes were held. Look forward to seeing you at the April meeting.
